As Grade 12 students across Cambodia approach the completion of their high school studies, many are beginning to face one of the most important decisions of their young lives: choosing a career path and finding the right institution to help them achieve their goals.
With so many universities, training providers, and career opportunities available, making the right choice can feel overwhelming. Beyond brochures and websites, students often want to understand what studying at a particular institution is really like and whether a career in Hospitality, Food & Beverage Management, or Culinary Arts is the right fit for them.
To help students make informed decisions, the Professional Institute of Excellence (PIE) recently welcomed several high schools to its campus, including New Generation School (NGS), Bak Touk High School, and Chea Sim Samaki High School.
Discovering Hospitality Through Experience
The visits were designed to provide students with a firsthand experience of life at PIE while introducing them to the exciting world of hospitality education.
Rather than simply attending presentations, students participated in interactive workshops that showcased both the service and culinary sides of the industry. Activities included fine dining table setup, mocktail creation, and ravioli folding, allowing students to experience some of the practical skills taught within PIE’s programs.
Students also enjoyed a guided campus tour, exploring professional training kitchens, beverage stations, and classrooms designed to replicate real industry environments. Throughout the visit, they had the opportunity to speak directly with PIE students and instructors, gaining valuable insights into student life, internships, and future career opportunities.
Is a Career in Food & Beverage Management Right for You?
Food & Beverage (F&B) Management is an ideal career path for individuals who enjoy working with people, creating memorable guest experiences, and leading teams in dynamic environments.
F&B professionals can be found in hotels, resorts, restaurants, cafés, bars, cruise ships, event venues, and airline catering operations. Their responsibilities often include managing service teams, ensuring guest satisfaction, organizing events, overseeing beverage programs, and maintaining operational standards.
As they progress in their careers, graduates may advance into roles such as Restaurant Manager, Banquet Manager, Operations Manager, or Food & Beverage Director.
A Food & Beverage Director oversees all dining and beverage operations within a hotel or hospitality business, balancing guest satisfaction, team leadership, operational efficiency, and financial performance. It is a career that combines management, people skills, and business expertise.
The profession is well suited to those who enjoy variety, teamwork, and leadership, while also being prepared for the fast-paced nature of the hospitality industry.
The Creative World of Culinary Arts
For students who are passionate about food, creativity, and hands-on learning, Culinary Arts offers a rewarding and diverse career path.
Professional chefs do much more than prepare meals. They create menus, manage kitchen operations, maintain quality standards, control costs, and lead culinary teams.
Career opportunities can be found in luxury hotels, fine dining restaurants, resorts, cruise ships, bakeries, catering companies, and food production businesses around the world.
With experience and dedication, culinary professionals can progress from Commis Chef to Chef de Partie, Sous Chef, and eventually Executive Chef.
An Executive Chef is responsible for leading the entire kitchen operation, developing menus, managing teams, and ensuring exceptional food quality. In larger hotels and resorts, they may oversee multiple restaurants and large culinary teams.
While the profession requires discipline, passion, and attention to detail, it also offers endless opportunities for creativity, personal growth, international careers, and lifelong learning.
Helping Students Make Informed Choices
At PIE, career exploration begins long before enrollment. By welcoming high school students onto campus and providing opportunities to experience hospitality education firsthand, the institute helps young people better understand their interests, strengths, and future opportunities.
Whether their passion lies in managing guest experiences, leading hospitality operations, or creating culinary excellence, students are encouraged to explore the many possibilities available within the hospitality industry.
As tourism and hospitality sectors continue to grow in Cambodia and internationally, demand for skilled professionals remains strong, creating exciting opportunities for the next generation of hospitality leaders.
PIE looks forward to welcoming more schools to campus in the coming months and continuing to inspire students as they take the first steps toward their future careers.
